You often hear people complaining that too many jobs are going overseas, but did you know that there are many opportunities for new high-tech businesses to open right here in Jefferson County? For example, there is a grass roots movement to open help desk phone banks in rural America, the same sort of good jobs which are now going to India. These are the people who help you run your computer, make your hotel reservation, etc. IF you can understand them! Since most rural Americans already speak English and have high school educations, it turns out to be less expensive to use Americans in low cost regions than to ship the jobs overseas.
So, why haven’t you heard about this? Beats me, I proposed this to the Chamber of Commerce years ago and no one expressed the slightest bit of interest.
If the supposed leaders aren’t leading, isn’t it time for someone else to take the lead? How about YOU?
Ever notice that big empty building right in the middle of downtown? I also told the Chamber that all they needed to do was install high-speed Internet access and good air conditioning and some high-tech firms from the Pittsburgh area might well be interested in moving in. I even brought some high-tech millionaires to visit. Response from the Chamber?
You guessed it, NOTHING! Is it any wonder downtown is dying and jobs are scarce?
Think your kids aren't getting a good enough education? Tired of teacher strikes? Don't complain, it won't do any good, just join the PA CyberSchool and bypass 90% of the local school problems.
