Words - As you learn more about learning, you will discover that knowing the definition of special (technical) terms in any new field of study, whether it's football or physics, will go a long way toward helping you understand the subject. When you hear doctors, lawyers, chemists, coaches, or auto mechanics describing something, you will have little or no chance of really understanding what they are talking about unless you have a handle on their specialized language.
But, once you know that:
Tort (Law) simply means something you can sue about;
Cardiac (Medicine) means related to the heart;
and so forth, the subject instantly becomes far less difficult to understand.
That often makes a specialized dictionary the very first place you should begin learning about any topic.
OK, this page doesn't look like much, but looks can be deceiving - for example, to make a page fast-loading and easy for everyone to use, you need to have a high-contrast background and no images. So, where you see a plain page, I see a fast loading, easy-to-read page.
There is far more information than appears at first glance. For example, RefDesk alone has hundreds of links to help topics and some of those links have as many as 5,000 links. If you can't find help here the subject isn't taught. The sites listed under Free Library have tens of thousands of more links.

Most useful for teachers, parents, and older students
There is an incredible amount of information available in online libraries which contain the full text of many books. These are almost always older books because they can't be placed online until the copyright expires, but this leaves literally millions of important and useful texts which are repidly making their way on to the Internet.
The Online Books Page - there are more than 16,000 books on this University of Pennsylvania site and you can read them online.
