These are cute and can be very friendly, especially the ones which have been bottle fed.
Jacob sheep are a very old and rugged breed which often has impressive horns - even the females (ewes) often have horns although those are usually fairly delicate.
Jocobs are black and white, need only access to grass and water, and can be kept fairly easily in any fence which would keep a dog confined.
They can easily be trained to come to you by offering them small amounts of grain or other treats.
Since sheep are herd animals, do yourself and any neighbors a favor and don't attempt to keep just one sheep - you need two at a minimum or they will cry out of sheer loneliness.
Two or more will keep each other company and stay together.
Jacobs are noted for their agility, curiosity, and strong personalities - these are definately NOT the dumb white blobs which most heavily inbred and "improved" sheep breeds have become.
Our sheep are often mistaken for goats but make much superior pets and are far less destructive than most goats.
We sell Jacob lambs in a price range of $85 and up, depending on appearance and other factors, such as whether they have been hand-raised for pets.
Generic auction lambs (you don't know their origin) are currently selling for $90+.
We will occasionally have a miniature horse for sale.
Mini horses look exactly like standard horses of the same breed but are only waist high.
They are generally friendly and intelligent and can be trained to do anything other horses can do (within their size limits), including being ridden by small children or pulling carts.
An acre is plenty of ground for a pair and a stall for a single mini needs to be only about 6-8 feet long.
Hay and water is all they need, although a good lawn or pasture with water available will provide all they need in good weather.
You can transport them in a horse trailer or even a properly-equipped full-sized (but minivan) passenger van.
They are often used as therapy animals and can even be used as helper animals much as a guide dog is.
These friendly and long-lived animals are much sturdier than horses and also better behaved around humans.
A miniature donkey will live up to 30 years and requires minimal special care, mostly regular attention from a farrier (manicurist) who is familiar with the special needs of donkey hooves.
Otherwise they are very rugged animals and need only access to space for exercise, loving attention from humans, and basic hay or green grass and fresh water.
In fact, you need to be careful that you don't overfeed donkeys - unless you are working them heavily they will quickly get very fat if you feed them alfalfa or grain (other than small amounts as a treat.)
A better reward for training or just a nice treat is a cut apple or two.
They can easily withstand our winters as long as they have dry shelter with good bedding and complete protection from winter winds. They definately do NOT want a heated room or blanket.
Miniature donkeys can be up to 36-inches tall at the shoulder (withers) but ours are all considerably smaller, mostly 32-inches or smaller.
Mini donks are very intelligent, friendly, affectionate, and easily handled.
All of these minis have the distinctive "cross" on their shoulders - the traditional story about this is that God placed this mark on the donkey to show that one of them carried Mary to the manger.
(The donkeys themselves say that means they never have to work again, but most owners disagree! This is the origin of the idea that they are stubborn but they are really just intelligent and need a bit of patience when faced with something new or strange.)
You can keep a single donkey if you pay regular attention to it. A donkey also makes an excellent companion animal for a horse or other animal. Ours often stay with and protect our sheep.
They do not like dogs and will quickly kill a coyote or any dog which "worries" them, but will become tolerant of any pet dogs which are not aggressive.
3-5 strand smooth wire with the top one electrified is plenty to keep these animals in a pasture or yard. They do not normally try to leave home since they enjoy and seek their owner's company.
We have jennets (females) and jacks (males) of various ages and sizes for sale.
Prices start at $350.
